Surjagarh Iron Ore Mines: Unveiling the Richness of India’s Natural Resources

An overview of the Surjagarh Iron Ore Mine of the Company depicting the arrangements made and the measures carried out for undertaking Iron Ore activities. The video also shows the upliftment of women empowerment by the Company along with various social activities carried out in the nearby vicinity.

  • Lloyds Metals and Energy Limited has been granted an iron ore mining lease over an area of 348.09 Ha. at Surjagarh Village, for 50 years for which there is no premium to be paid over the life of the mine.
  • Surjagarh (Wooria hills) located in the Surjagarh hill range is the most important and well-known major iron ore reserve in the Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra, due to its good quality of iron ore.
  • The company is running its mining activities since 2021 by Thriveni Earthmovers Pvt. Ltd.
  • The proven reserves at the mine in the 1970s were estimated to be at 73.6 MMT. A more recent study which is underway, conducted by Tata Steel Industrial Consulting Limited indicates that against these initial reserves, actuals are far greater and would be in the range of 180 Mn mt. With an additional 550 Mn Mt of BHQ (Banded Hematite Quartz).
  • This was a result of the multiple boreholes dug here. In the 1970’s a total of 3995 running meters of digging and studies were conducted. Against this, in the years 2022 & 2023 we have dug an additional 15,600 running meters, with some yet left.
  • The final report and subsequent JORC certification are expected in the FY 2023- 2024
  • In the FY 2022-2023, we evacuated from the mines approximately
  • 3 MTPA
  • As on 10th March 2023, the company has been awarded the permit to now excavate upto 10MTPA (Million metric tonnes per annum)
  • Double Laning of Road is being constructed from our mines to Allapalli which is expected to be completed in the upcoming few months.
  • We have also developed a “Stockyard” near Allapalli with a truck weighing facility using Govt. Approved Weighbridges can handle the entire material movement estimated to be generated from this mine.
  • In May 2022, the company got approval to sell iron ore across India and to export globally as well, which was earlier restricted to only the state of Maharashtra.
